Eilwen is a young girl struggling to get by in a life of tobacco farming in 1930s Kentucky. Orphaned and living with her aunt, uncle, and little brother, Eilwen clings to stories of magic and fairies to give her the strength to keep plowing through life. Then one day, after running into a mysterious black snake about which she has been dreaming for years, she discovers some of the stories may actually be quite real. When a strange but familiar boy named Conor reveals himself to Eilwen, an entirely new world of magic opens up for her, as well as answers to all the questions Eilwen has had about herself all her life.
(This book was written as the first part of a series that is no longer being completed for the foreseeable future. This book was first written when the author was fourteen and she since has moved on to other projects.)
